Singer and rapper Lizzo dressed as the late country musician Dolly Parton for Halloween on October 31, 2026, as reported by Billboard. The tribute featured a yellow jumpsuit inspired by the artwork for Parton's 1973 hit single Jolene. [1]

Parton passed away at age 80 on August 25, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, according to Whiskey Riff. Whiskey Riff reported that Parton had experienced severe kidney stones and undisclosed health issues prior to her death. The Boot and Taste of Country both reported that she was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville next to her late husband, Carl Dean. [2][3][4]

As FTMQ Music reported earlier, the Country Music Association scheduled a two-hour televised tribute special for Parton that aired on ABC on October 21, 2026. Indiatimes reported that Lizzo faced criticism on social media from users who called the Halloween costume disrespectful following the singer's recent death. [9][13]

Lizzo posted a video of the outfit on Instagram, writing that she was singing Jolene in honor of Parton and thanking her for believing in humanity, Billboard reported. Parton's estate is currently involved in legal disputes with her family members, including a lawsuit involving her nephew Bryan Seaver, according to The Boot and Taste of Country. [1][5][6]
