Eminem defended his decision to record the guest verse despite public criticism from fans regarding their political differences. Rolling Stone and Consequence reported that Eminem addressed the collaboration in a social media post, writing that it was not about choosing sides but about making music with an old friend, adding that he was praying for all of us. According to Consequence, Eminem traces his decades-long history with Kid Rock on the track and expresses hope that their friendship can inspire others to set aside their differences. Rolling Stone noted that both artists are Detroit natives. [1][2]

Rolling Stone reported that the release drew backlash from some fans because of Eminem's past public political stances, including his endorsement of Kamala Harris at a Detroit rally in 2024 and his criticism of Donald Trump on songs such as Campaign Speech. Kid Rock established himself in the Detroit hip-hop scene before performing rap rock and country rock. [1][12]
