A federal judge has permanently dismissed a proposed class action lawsuit that accused Spotify of ignoring billions of allegedly fake streams of Drake's music. Rolling Stone, Billboard, Digital Music News, and UA.NEWS all reported on the dismissal of the lawsuit. [1][4][6][8]
Rolling Stone reported that United States District Judge Josephine L. Staton issued a 16-page ruling dismissing the suit on October 23, 2026. The lead plaintiff in the case was the rapper RBX, whose legal name is Eric Dwayne Collins and who is the cousin of Snoop Dogg. The judge found that Collins failed to establish that Spotify owed him a specific legal duty or that he suffered the type of harm necessary to support a negligence claim. [1]
The proposed class action lawsuit was first reported by Rolling Stone in November 2025. It had claimed that the music streaming service turned a blind eye to widespread streaming fraud and fake plays involving Drake's catalog. [1][4]
