Boutique record label 22Twenty will release a new tribute album titled Familiar Strangers Vol. 1: Is This It on December 4, 2026. Stereogum reported that the record marks the 25th anniversary of the debut studio album by American rock band The Strokes. The announcement comes as the label prepares a series of tribute projects centered on the iconic release. [1][3]

The lead single from the compilation is a cover of the song Trying Your Luck performed by Philadelphia sibling duo Sam and Louise Sullivan, according to Stereogum. The track is described as a four-track recording of the original album song. [1]

The original album Is This It was first released on July 30, 2001, in Australia before receiving an international release through RCA Records and a United Kingdom release via Rough Trade Records. Gordon Raphael produced the album at Transporterraum studio in New York City during March and April 2001. The band members recorded compositions largely through live takes to capture a simple sound without significant studio enhancements. [3]

The Strokes formed in New York City in 1998 and were a central part of the early 2000s garage rock revival. The group consists of lead vocalist Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. [3][4]
