Robbie Bennett, the keyboardist for the War on Drugs, will release two new solo albums on December 11, 2026. Pitchfork and Stereogum both report that the two records are titled Steloken and Circulation. Pitchfork reported that both projects will be released through the record label American Dreams and will feature 29 new tracks in total across Bennett's solo catalog. [1][2]
Pitchfork and Stereogum both report that Bennett has released one preview song from each upcoming album. Listeners can hear the track Sister from Steloken and the song The Light on Your Face from Circulation. Pitchfork reported that these releases follow Bennett's 2020 solo debut album, Permanent World. [1][2]
Pitchfork reported on the instrumentation and recording techniques used for the upcoming projects. Bennett developed each track using the same keyboard that he plays while performing with the War on Drugs. He created the music by sending MIDI signals from an acoustic player piano directly into an Oberheim OB-X8 synthesizer, allowing both instruments to play simultaneously, before adding additional layers of Fender Rhodes and vocoder. [1]
Stereogum noted that while the War on Drugs appear to be moving toward a new album cycle, no official information has been released regarding a follow-up to their 2021 album, I Don't Live Here Anymore. Bennett's upcoming dual release marks his latest individual output ahead of any future band announcements. [2]
